How Do We Teach (Discipline) Children?
Affirmations:
- I listen to my own unique needs to learn what is best.
- I honor the special needs of every person, adult, child or infant.
- I respect the freedom of all beings to grow in their own higher understanding.
- I trust and allow the Good within to blossom forth with Love.
The origin of the word ‘discipline’ means to teach.
How were you taught as a child? How do you teach those adults around you? How do you discipline yourself? How were you imprinted to teach and learn?
The methods used in parenting are now prevalent in our society. What families do to teach their children are passed on. We may not even be aware of how we were taught. We may just assume that the discipline we experienced is customary.
Let’s question what we have learned and taught.. Let us expose what works and doesn’t work. Let us understand why there is so much confusion. Let us see the origin of what we now see in our culture.
Do you teach your children with love and respect? Do you teach your children with modeling and understanding? Do you teach your children how to live their lives well / Do you teach your children with honor and appreciation?
Most children have learned and been disciplined the way their parents where taught. Some of the methods used are to withhold, reject, abandon, deny. Some methods of discipline are to hurt, scold, humiliate, shame, criticize or blame. Some methods of teaching are to judge, compare, challenge, prod or threaten.
How do you teach your children? Is there a better way? You have learned from the ways you were taught how to treat yourself. When you pay attention to your inner dialogue, you will see and hear the same as your parents taught.
Do you tease and cajole? Do you taunt and seduce? Do you reward and appreciate? Do you confuse with both love and hate?
When will we ever learn, children are delicate as flower. When will we understand children listen to and copy their parents, When will we be responsible and conscious enough to teach a better way? When will we choose the healthiest and most effective ways to inspire self esteem and success.
Every child, person, is different. What works for one many not work for another. Perhaps when we LOVE, we will listen and respect the unique needs of each child. Perhaps when we love ourselves, we will understand our own unique needs to learn.
You Are A Flower in the Garden of Life
If you would grow to be your best self Be patient, not demanding Accepting, not condemning Nurturing, not withholding Self-marveling, not belittling Gently guiding, not pushing & punishing
For you are more sensitive than you know Mankind is tough as war Yet delicate as flowers We can endure agonies But we open fully only to warmth & light And our need to grow is fragile as a fragrance Dispersed by storms of will To return only when those storms are still
So accept, respect, Attend your sensitivity
A flower Cannot be opened With a hammer
